Bellows Air Force Beach Park – Oahu, Hawaii
The Chase Family
Who doesn’t love a good family session at Bellows Air Force Beach Park? The cool breeze, turquoise water, majestic mountain range and soft sandy beach all within arms reach. Wait, let’s not forgot the endless fun we’ve all had there with our families. I mean I still go there as an adult to boogie board and let my childish spirit fly, don’t you?
I’m pretty sure all of the above was Allison’s reason for choosing Bellows Air Force Beach Park as their families Holliday Military Mini session location. But I do have to say that our session didn’t start off with the best weather. It poured on us the second we stepped foot on the beach. To my surprise, the Chase’s made the best of the situation like any seasoned military family does. We all huddled under our umbrellas as we waited for the rain to pass. I really wish I had gotten a photo of that because I’m sure we all looked really silly, but it ended up being great because we got to share stories and talk more about the type of images they were hoping to achieve. Minutes later the rain cleared, the clouds parted and we had our sunshine. I’m pretty sure we all sighed with relief at the same time.
We headed over the rocks for our must needed wide open landscape shots. Those always make for the best images that turn into a fresh new canvas to hang on your living room wall. Once we knocked those out it was time to have some fun and shake things up a bit. I love it when families get to play with each other and interact during their sessions. It helps bring the family closer together by creating a bonding moment and an experience the kids will never forget.
Now that the Chase kids were full of smiles, I had the perfect opportunity to pull them aside and get individual portraits of them. Now tell me their relative back hope won’t be over the moon when they get to see how much they have grown! But I think the most important photograph to capture when photographing a military family is the one with their service member, in this case, is was their father. He is gone so much and works long hours that it is important for their children to have a current and happy photograph together with their dad. This gives them something to remember, something to look at, and something to hope for while he is away. And I just made myself cry. Came someone pass me the tissues? But every session has to end on a positive note. A quick slow dance for mom and dad, a jumping photo with an epic dab and one last run around the beach.
Thank you Chase Family for being so amazing! I could have photographed all of you till it got dark out. You were so patient to wait out the rain with me and were full of endless smiles and so much energy. It ended up being such a wonderful evening. But most of all thank you for your service and all that you do for everyone. You guys seriously rock! <3
