This crazy military life that we live brings some pretty amazing families into our lives. Just before we were set to move to Fort Leavenworth (Leavenworth Military Family Photographer,) The Miller’s moved to Hawaii to take over an aviation battalion. Amanda reached out to me to photograph her family around their new home with hopes to get some shots on the tarmac.
Well, we did that and some. When I found out they would be living in an old World War II Woody home I knew we needed to get a classic family photo in front of it to commemorate their special time in Hawaii. These homes hold so much history as families just like ours were presiding in them the day sirens went off and Pearl Harbor changed forever.
Amanda and Jake have both served in the Army and have raised an incredible family of six. Talk about parenting goals! These kids look up to their parents so much. We took them to Jake’s new command on the airfield to explore the Chinooks and hanger that he will be working from during their time in Hawaii. I kid you not, Revell and Winston are just like their parents and were so fascinated by the helicopters, all of them love to explore them and sit in the piolets seat. It was so special to see the kids so intrigued by their father’s job.
After exploring the airfield we hopped in our cars and drove to the North Shore of the island where we ended at Pua`ena Point Beach Park, a little-hidden beach just next to Haleiwa. They explored the beach, hunted for crabs, climbed coconut trees and wall. It was such a magical morning of them just being themselves and so happy to be in Hawaii. I can’t express enough how wonderful it was working with the Miller’s. Amanda and I immediately clicked, her vibrant energy and eagerness for adventure made planning their session such a breeze. To be able to photograph a family on a tarmac is rare, let alone have the children’s attention for more than two hours was a blessing.
Thank you, Miller family for trusting in me to capture your first family photographs in Hawaii. I hate that our paths split when they did but I know you all are having the time of your lives in Hawaii and are enjoying the island to its fullest. I wish you and your family nothing but the best!
